jmraider Posted September 26, 2014 Share Posted September 26, 2014 Not sure if I am in the correct forum, but here is my question: I am planning to do a Virtual Reality Santa in a window. I have a two story home and I am planning to do it in an upstairs window. I would like to control when the Virtual Santa is showing. Therefore I am trying to figure out is there a way to have the Santa in the window controlled through a channel in my sequencing. One of my challenges is the location of the Virtual Santa, running data wires etc. to connect to one of my controllers. I do have a set of the Wireless Data Easy Linkers. I also realize that having the projector going on an off, may cause an issue with the bulb or projector itself. Any ideas or suggestion on how to control my virtual Santa within my sequencing? Randy Posted September 26, 2014 Share Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) You can do that, I suppose....But when I turn my projector on, it goes through a warmup process and displays the brand name for several seconds, etc. Kinda ruins the effect, if you ask me. I project Virtual Santa in an upstairs window that looks out on my driveway and I let it run all night long. I also play the audio into separate speakers in the driveway and the kids love it... I really don't think it is necessary to have the video turn on and off....There are a few blank spots in the video anyways, so it works out pretty well.....Just play and let it go would be my vote... symphony Posted September 28, 2014 Share Posted September 28, 2014 I plan to run mine through LOR this year - going to run a cable from upstairs to downstairs (similar set up to you) and have the santa file incorporated in the media file for the song it's linking to. Will then have the media file for the "static" lights running Virtual Santa also! So I'll turn the projector on before the show but keep the lens cap on until it's warmed up - then released it and it'll be a blank screen until the Santa file / one other song wihta different file come on. wrohdejr Posted September 30, 2014 Share Posted September 30, 2014 Your better off making your sequence with a video file instead of a wav or mp3 file. This way when the sequence loads it will play the video. The only issue is you have to run a video cable from your computer to the projector. I do this but the projector is in the next room. Keep your projector/dvd loop on all the time, to black out picture on window think about this idea. Use an old Aluminum Christmas tree color wheel and put it in front of the LED projector lens, black every other color on the wheel, and make the others with no color, then plug that into a LOR sequence channel, figure out the timing the wheel uses, turn on the wheel so that it moves to an open spot on the wheel and your projector will project through that open area on the wheel, Turn wheel on again to move wheel to blackout spot area. Make any sense? Now the question is how do you turn the power on and off without having to run a cord from your LOR box to the wheel? Is there a way to incorporate the Easy linkers to turn on a remote device that will provide power to your wheel? I am sure there may be a simpler way and I am open to hearing about it. I know some folks have said just let the loop run, which is OK too. I know this may be more complicated than necessary, just trying to think out of the box.
