Laptop storage size needed?

I need to get a new laptop to run this year's shows.  I currently have 272 channels of LOR but now Im adding a 12 CCR matrix to the mix and using Superstar software ( Which I LOVE BTW!).  I know the files are big- so what size hard drive do you suggest I get?  Of course we are looking to eventually switch out most of our LED string to CCR/CCB/CCP's in the future...any advice you can give me is very appreciated- thanks!

I would think most any size drive that comes standard would be large enough. As a quick test I went to Dell.com and selected the low end of laptops. They have 500GB hard drives in them as the default option.

As Don was saying, most all new computers come with hefty hard drives so there's plenty of space. I do think however, you might want to look at machines with a higher RAM rather than the usual 4Gb. Most machines are coming with 64 bit OS's these days so they can use a lot more RAM. My thought is that with a greatly increased use of RGB commands, more RAM might be needed. I truly don't know if the LOR software is capable of using the additional RAM or not which all depends on the programmers and which compilers they use.

By what Dan's posting in the update thread, the updates are pointed toward 64 bit systems, which will in turn use some extra RAM. I don't know how much more though.

Also, when looking at a new Laptop, try to find one with a hefty graphics card. It's really not needed for the show, but it will benefit you while sequencing. I'm sequencing 10K + channels this year and I have an i7 processor with 6 Gb RAM. The graphics card is integrated into the MB. If I had it to do over, I would have looked for a better card.

I am not going to use this laptop to do the actual sequencing on- just running the shows- I do all my sequence on my desk top with a big screen- old eyes!

Should be great with an i3 or i5 processor or a compatible AMD. I wouldn't go below 6 Gb of RAM though, but that's just a personal preference on my part.

My LOR show directory (sequences, music, etc) is roughly 6 gigs in size.  We are 100% RGB and run 15-20 songs in the show.  That leaves plenty of room on my 750 gig HDD.
