DLTSLC
Has anyone found a good solution to mounting the CCRs to their aluminum fascia boards ? I bought several of these at Lowes: http://www.lowes.com/pd_240805-82801-921-08_0__?productId=1068569&Ntt=aluminum&Ns=p_product_price|0&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_price%7C0%26Ntt%3Daluminum%26page%3D1&facetInfo= and used tape at the cut points in the CCR to hold the strip to this skinny, piece of aluminum to start the mounting system, but short of drilling several holes in my aluminum fascia boards, haven't figured out how to do it. Steven
Doing a Google search, I found a company, http://www.hillas.com, who sold AC78, but their page said " This item is obsolete." So I called them on the phone and got a very helpful person who redirected me to the 3M help line: 1-800-362-3550, option 2, 2, 2. I called that number and found they are currently out to lunch, but I'll check back in a little while. Another shopping site says: "DISCONTINUED (03/12/2015)". I just called 3M. They tell me that AC78 has been replaced by AC79, which has pretty much the same description. Edited October 29, 2015 by Steven
Steven
Also, no one seems to sell smaller quantities. Seems like most companies sell it in quantities of 10 bottles. For me, I found one bottle was enough to do three ribbons. If I find someone that sells smaller quantities, I will post it here. I'm thinking of ordering a case, which will come out to a little under $12 per 2oz bottle. If there are enough people here who want it, I would then send individual bottles. Any one interested? This is 3M AC79, which will prepare silicon (like a CCR) to accept cyanoacrylate adhesive (Superglue). Never mind! I found a distributor who sells single bottles at a time, for $11 (plus shipping): http://www.all-spec.com/products/AC79.html?gclid=CLGd8-Oo6MgCFQMEaQodOu8J2Q Edited October 29, 2015 by Steven
Steven
I received my bottle of AC79. This stuff is amazing! I brushed some on the silicon ribbon and also on the Velcro strip, then used some Superglue. The bond is easily stronger than the industrial strength Velcro. My recommendation is Industrial Strength Velcro, AC79, and any generic cyanoacrylate adhesive. The method you use to attach the other side of the Velcro depends on what you the surface is made of. Mine are attached to vinyl windows, so I only had to clean them with alcohol and apply the Velcro.
