Driv80
I got the 8 pack RGB ribbons. I searched the forums and now more lost. My question is I would like to keep the controller in my house with the ribbons outside my house. Iike you could a normal LOR controller. Is it possible to make extension cords using spt wire from controller to ribbon? Or is all 8 ribbons restricted to being 6 feet from controller, making it impossible to control all 8 ribbons using 1 controller if i plan on outlining the top of my house with them. sax
You can make extensions as well. I have gone 75 feet without an issue using awg 20 wire. SPT would work but for RGB you need 4 cables per device. SPT is overkill. Yes, it would work but your cost will be much higher. RGB 4 wire cable is sold by many vendors and can be used instead. Or look for any 4 strand wire at local box stores. Speaker wire, sprinkler wire....these work too but in my experience tend to cost more than the RGB 4 wire sold. Please note that the LOR 4 pin cable ends are smaller than the typical 4 pin ends sold. I haven't seen these LOR connector ends sold by anyone yet. So, if you don't want to cut the LOR ends then your best bet would be the cable extensions sold by LOR. steve synek
I've made runs as long as 50 ft. using CAT5 stranded conductors (combining pairs to make a single conductor) without a visual issue. Steve
dgrant
I bought a spool of 16/4 wire which is probably overkill but didn't want to chance line-loss. I'm using car/truck trailer connectors on the wire and the controller and specific lengths of the cable to each location. I've not yet cut the RGB strips nor the cable lengths till I decide where the controller will be plus cabling routing concerns. I'd love to lay them in a gutter but the water/snow/ice concerns become an issue in the winter. Yes, the cable was made for external usage.
