Timing not matching

I'm new so I'm just getting started with sequencing.

Someone gave me a sequence and I want to use part of it for my own, only I can't get the timing right.

I created a new sequence with the same timing, and did the Copy Timing from the one sequence to my new one.

I selected a row, copied it, and then pasted it into mine. It goes for a while but then half way through the song the timing goes off.

What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?

In the overwhelming majority of cases like yours the cause is the audio file. If you're using a MP3 file make sure it is a CBR (constant bit rate) file at 128Kbps.

It's also possible that the original sequencer edited the audio file.

There are several things that could be going on.

The first two easy ones are:

1. When you cut and paste, you might want to make sure the check box "paste by timing" is selected.   If the timing grid is different from where you are cutting from, then paste by cell could potentially stretch or squish your sequence and you will see a timing difference become more apparent as the song plays on.

2. Your music file should be a "constant" bit rate.  Using a program like Audacity can help you load a song and then SAVE  AS a constant bit rate file.

You could also use the Beat Wizard and break the song into chunks instead of doing the whole song at once.   This will help keep it solid on beat if there is any variance in tempo within the song.

I tried the paste by time, and that seemed to work.
