DMX AND Motion Sensor

Hi,

so here is an interesting challenge. With the cost of my current utility bill (and the display is up, but not running) I am going to be changing out all of my external house lighting (floods) to the following: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/30W-RGB-DMX-flood-light-AC90-260V-input-can-be-controlled-by-dmx-controller-directly-size/701799_578244911.html

The above will replace these: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Heath-Zenith-240-Degree-Outdoor-Motion-Sensing-Security-Light-SL-5311-BZ/100645198#.Ue55MW1qe8E

the challenge?  I need the motion sensor to apply power like it does now and just turn on the the light on white whenever there is motion. During the holidays, the DMX will take over.

Anyone have any thoughts of how to combine DMX and a motion sensor?

thanks

Kip

Get an IR motion sensor and tie it in to a controller that will apply power to the needed leads for how ever long you'd like them to be on for. A simple controller from Fright Props should do the trick.

If you are going pure DMX you will need to make sure your DMX dongle supports RDM.  Standard DMX does not receive data so if you were going to do a motion sensor setup of any kind you would need an RDM supported device.

I plan on purchasing one of the DMX King USB to DMX port devices. What is RDM? (Sorry don't know the acronym.)

I am purchased the tinypix controller from holidaycoro.com. When no dmx signal is present it will run one of 23 preset color modes when power is applied. I am gutting all my landscape lights with their rectangle RGB LEDs and running them all white from dusk to dawn in the off season. During the holidays LOR will control them. This controller only works with smart pixels, hower it would be easy to gut your existing fixtures and install their RGB modules.
