fire machine for Halloween

Hey guys,  my husband and I are wanting to add fire effects to our Halloween display this year.  I have searched the internet and have found some dmx fire machines used for concerts which is actually perfect.  The problem with these machines is they are all from China and the fuel they use cannot be shipped into the US.  I am nervous that if i order these i may not receive them and if i do will i be able to find compatible fuel?  Has anyone seen any other options within the US?  I am going to be really bummed out if we can't pull this off in our 2013 display.  Any suggestions are welcome.

If they are propane compatible, then you should be okay.

But not knowing what machines or fuel types you're looking at, can't really say.

You'd need to provide the forum members with a little more detail, and possibly the url of the machines and their fuel type that you are considering to get a better answer to your questions about them.

I have seen a couple different fire machines that a member wanted to use (aka: show off :D ) a couple years ago at our show. I don't remember exactly which ones he used, and if I remember right, it was at the 2010 show, so it was a couple of years ago, and I believe he has used them in his show since then. I will try to find who the member is and if i find him, I'll send you a PM with his information.

I had seen those dmx fire machines and I totally would love to use them. Except.... We are in a burn ban in Odessa and that would get me shut down in a hurry!

Yes Tracy the burn ban is a problem for us too.  We live near Amarillo in a very small town.  I would be happy to be able to use them for our opening night when we have our big block party.  Since my husband is the Fire Marshall and we could have several firefighters and the fire truck here, I believe the city would overturn the county fire ban for just a few hours for the party. The fire machines would then be put away until the ban is lifted.  During the time when we are lucky enough not to be under a fire ban, we would only run them on the weekends when my husband is home to supervise.  It would be an risky investment since there is a good chance we may only be able to use them once in a season but I think they make such a huge impact that they would be worth it.

bgwyn,  talk to Ray Wu at Aliexpress, maybe he can give some specs on that fire machine or give you a alternate gas that you can use. www.aliexpress.com/store/701799

I bought two of those machines, they are great after you work out the kinks(finding the right fuel and getting the solenoids to work faster). I have one going in my video here the other one I was working on. Let me know if you have any questions.

Very cool,

How did you fix the solenoid issue, also what did you use for fuel. Any issues with the town trying to shut you down? I am thinking of adding 4 to my show next year.

just wondering if any progress has been made on this topic.

I bought one from Ray Wu to try.  I've tried a few different fuels but for some reason the solenoid valve won't open whenever a can is attached.  If I remove the can, the solenoid valve clicks happily away.  Anybody ever seen this one? and what do you use for fuel?

I have been look at these machines as well. I'd like to get one that runs off propane instead of the cans of starter fluid. Don't think I'll get one this year but perhaps in the future.  Our local fire chief was very concerned about the possibility of me using such a device. I htink it woul dbe cool, but I would only use it when I can be home and monitor the whole thing.

Not sure how reliable they are.

wow, nice typos, sorry everyone it's been a long week.

I'm using engine starter fluid in these. Nice big yellowish flames. Cans of starter fluid cone from Auto Zone or Advance Auto. I had to use different springs as the stock springs were too tight for the size of the starter fluid can.

Hope this helps.

Hey Eric,

How long does one of those cans last? The propane machines are about twice the cost and I don't know if it's worth the extra cost just to run on propane.

interesting.  I can fit the cans in there, but it seems like whenever they are in place the valve wont open.  Or are you saying the springs need to have less pressure applied to the can?
